Twin Falls, Idaho

Twin Falls is the world's most BASE-friendly city. The local Chamber of Commerce uses BASE to promote tourism for the area, and numerous local merchants and hotels offer BASE discounts.

Airport Information: The nearest major airports to Twin Falls are Salt Lake City (3.5 hours drive) and Boise (1.75 hours drive). The Twin Falls airport (airport code TWF) is incredibly convenient (there is only one gate, so there are zero security or check in lines, and parking is both free and within 50 yards of the terminal), and flying into it is usually not too much more expensive than flying into Salt Lake City (all flights to and from TWF route through SLC) if you book sufficiently in advance. The only airline flying into Twin Falls is SkyWest (the regional Delta subsidiary). Car rentals are available from several agencies at the Twin Falls Airport, and there is also taxi service into town.

If you are flying a private aircraft, the Jerome county airport is actually closer to the bridge, and to Twin Falls hotels, than the TWF airport.† The Jerome airport is approximately 10 miles north of the bridge and hotels (the TWF airport is about 15 miles south and the bridge is at the northernmost edge of Twin Falls).

Hotel information: Twin Falls has a fairly good spread of hotels. The following are chain hotels on Blue Lakes (the road that runs over the bridge), within easy distance of the bridge, listed in order of their proximity to the bridge. The first 3 are within walking distance by the American definition, all of them are within walking distance by European standards.

  • Holiday Inn Express
  • Shiloh Inn
  • Motel 6
  • Ameritel
  • Red Lion Inn
  • Super 8

Motel 6 is the cheapest of the lot, and Super 8 is favored by many jumpers as the best combination of cheap and nice (it's second cheapest, but probably worth the extra cost over Motel 6 unless you are on a tight budget). All of these hotels can be booked online, so check their web sites for current pricing. Be aware that some of them have weekly rates, and several have discounts available for BASE jumpers (usually equal to the various travel club and senior citizen discounts) if you ask.

For the even more budget minded, there is a KOA campground about 5 miles north of the bridge, outside of town. There are also several low budget motels with weekly rates on the south end of town, about 7 miles from the bridge. The most popular of these among jumpers is the Holiday Motel (208 733-4330), which offers very inexpensive weekly rates.

Food and Drink: The Outback Steak House next to the bridge offers BASE jumpers full-time happy hour (second drink is always a penny).

The International House of Pancakes (also immediately adjacent to the bridge) offers a 10% discount for BASE jumpers.

Woody's Sports Bar (213 5th Ave South) offers half price pitchers for jumpers who bring in video to show on their big screen.
